this is somewhat reminiscent of ravioli. it has a similar restriction, but in space instead of time. this does however mean that ravioli can stay inert and undeleted for hours if noone comes around and does it. this is not possible in nudelgrowth. but what is possible in nudelgrowth is having a very complex song. it doesnt constrict space, only time, so if you are fast enough you can make something very big, it will [just] require a lot of effort to keep around, which gives small things an advantage. but even small things will need to be rewritten every few minutes, and each time they will usually change a bit. also unlike ravioli, nudelgrowth allows the jam to grow with the number of people in it. more people in fact means a complex jam is the only way everyone can participate actively.
nudelgrowth does not allow changes. it allows testing locally before letting it grow, but not changing existing growth. if it were to allow them, it might encourage such things as to change the gain to be 0.1 to pretend its no longer there without actually deleting it. you must delete, even in nudelgrowth. changes would also mean the jam doesnt have to adapt much when something new comes, but the jam must evolve. if you dont like it, you must delete it. if you like it, it will be gone in under 5 minutes.
nudelgrowth is quite ruthless. you need to be comfortable with deletion and be able to adapt constantly. making space is extremely easy: click on occupied space to make it free again, and you can click quite quickly. you also need to write something to do anything at all, instead of being able to change whats already there. you need to be somewhat confident in what youve written, because you wont be able to change it once you've started writing the next thing. the only way to keep something is to record it, there is no "oh the jam is great rn i dont wanna delete it *closes tab*" because the jam is gone if its not happening LIVE, RIGHT NOW.
